Stream Baits are the newest addition to the Aqua-Scent line up of products. These products are designed for the use of scent and matching delivery system. A great deal of effort, understanding, and R&D play into the development of the Stream Baits. Respecting semblance of useful, reliable, factual and practical information, values we insist on at The National School of Fishing, these products support.

When you consider artificial baits, plastics in this case, it seems only reasonable to authenticate their use by lifelike recreations of the prey you're trying to emulate. In this case, crawfish. This bait has been designed with an internal cavity allowing for the insertion of a freeze dried real fish food tablet. When placed in the water the tablet dissolves leaving a scent trail streaming from the bait. Again a natural presentation.

There are many setup variations which can be used and is pretty much left up to you the angler. Below are a couple you might entertain. Hooks are shown through the bait and exposed for purposses of clarity.

What is Fish Tickle. Video 28 seconds

I have found real fish food is much more effective in attracting fish. After all, it's the real deal. However, how the real deal is introduced to the fish is quite another. It has been my experience, 42 years on the water, that direct application of a natural or commercial substance to the bait or lure itself is much less effective. Not that it doesn't work, but it is not my first choice.

The Aqua-Scent tablets used with the dispensers release the scent directly into the water emulating a naturalistic introduction. This serves to heighten the fish senses in a way compatible with their environment. No surprises so to speak. Think of it like this. The smell of burning leaves isn't unsettling like the site of a large fire. It's just there. This also allows for a wider range of bait choices since the objective is to bring the fish to the bait. It also infects a much larger area drawing fish from greater distances. The tablets offer a great deal of versatility, even being inserted into tube baits as well as other choices.

Aqua -Sent has worked well for us and we continue to use it, even finding new ways for its use and natural introduction.

SHOULD YOU USE FISH SCENTS? Read on for more insight to an age old question.

Do fish scents work or not? Good question and one that seems to surface often. In answer to that question the response more often than not is I guess it depends on who you ask. Translation, they really don't know but, are quick to offer an opinion which is understandable. For me, forty two years on the water has redefined the definition of opinion when it comes to fish scents. It makes little difference who you are, time on the water will, with an eye and mind for learning, trump everything else. A couple of things are noteworthy and if practiced will make a huge difference in your success.

Human excretion is your worst enemy.  It shouldn't come as no surprise, but I understand. It took me many years to figure it out. There are a lot factors that contribute to an anglers lack of success but one that tops them all is your own scent. The human secretion of body chemicals is most offensive to fish and a big warning flag. It is not what you put on your bait, it is what you should keep off your bait. I could get into a lengthy discussion on this topic but choose not to here. Follow these simple guidelines and you will be shocked how many more fish you will hook. It's up to you to catch them.
Continuously keep your hands clean while fishing. Some natural commercial products available will work. One is good ole soap. Wash your hands with lake water not the chlorine from your tap water, if you can. I carry a towel at all times and after releasing the fish I ALWAYS wipe my hands on the towel. What's on the towel after a release? Fish scent. I wipe my hands on the towel often. I don't wash that towel either. Think about what you touch in a day of fishing. You need to mask it. I use the towel.

The key to the Aqua-Spin dispenser is its function to be able to release real fish scents into a horizontal water column directly impacting the bait selected for use. The dispenser is an in-line application easily sliding onto your line. Its two piece design allows for the insertion of real fish food freeze dried tablets illustrated in figure 1B. It then snaps together acting as a dispenser. As the dispenser is pulled forward, the impellers cause the unit to rotate (spin). The spinning action flushes the scent from the tablets through the vents in the rear capsule dispersing the scent which flows directly back to the bait.

As a result, you have created a natural scent trail introducing one of two trigging points for fish. Scent and sight. The Key word here is naturally. It is also important to note you have done this without compromising or impeding the action of the bait by direct application of other substances. In real estate, it's called "location, location, location. In the aquatic world, it's called "natural, natural, natural". This is not to suggest other products or applications would not work.

Each graphic shown is indicative of a particular scenario and type of bait used. Certainly, there are many more, limited only by your creativity. The type of bait selected will influence the technique used.

The illustrations are not to scale. Bait choices, distances between bait and swivel, size of swivel, bead, line, and other elements are personal choices. I would suggest however, the distance between bait and swivel is no more than 36 inches. The scent trail can be affected by several variables including current. The farther the bait is from the source of the scent trail (dispenser) minimizes the intended effect. Figure 1A shows the scent trail as visible small little dots emulating from the dispenser.
